DIGICEL LAUNCHES SITE IN MAROON VILLAGE LEBIDOTI

October 3rd 2011 - Lebidoti site

On the 2nd of July fifteen hundred villagers of Lebidoti celebrated the launch of Digicel’s tower in their village. Lebidoti lies in the Brokopondo area and was previously known as an area where coverage -from the competitor- was poor. Hans Lute, CEO of Digicel Suriname, visited the local authorities and the local basic school. Captain Raamon Baabo, one of the leaders of Lebidoti indicated that he is very pleased with the new development, because to him reliable telecommunication in the village equals economic development for his people.

As part of Digicel’s Corporate Social Responsibility program the headmaster of the school, Petra Lioni, received 60 swimming vests, a computer and various sporting material on behalf of the students.  “Digicel wants to contribute to e-learning especially in the interior where computers are still a luxury, says Hans Lute. With the donation of a computer many of the 400 pupils of OS Lebidoti will now be able to use the internet for the first time ever”, says Hans Lute.

With the launch of this new tower not only Lebidoti will be covered by Digicel, but also the villages Baku, Tjilipasi and Alimoni.
