DIGICEL DONATES
December 13th 2010 - Digicel donates Life VestsChildren at Manlobi and Stoelmanseiland now safer to school
PARAMARIBO, SURINAME – DECEMBER 7, 2010 –
Digicel donates life vests to school children at Manlobi. Today, Digicel Suriname has donated 120 life vests to the O.S.Manlobi and Prinses Beatrix school at Stoelmanseiland. This gesture was made after observations by Digicel that not all schoolchildren had a life vest. A great part of these children come from the surrounding villages to visit primary school.
Since September this year, Digicel provided this area with telecommunication and was welcomed by the community with open arms. It was important for us therefore to us to make this contribution. The school principal at Manlobi, Albertine Gazon, was very pleased with this gesture. “We thank Digicel and we promise to handle these life vests with care. Parents can now send their children to school without any fear. Not everyone can afford to buy a life vest so we are very thankful to Digicel”.
“From the start of Digicel Suriname, we have distinctly shown that the interior is important to us. We have continually made mobile connections possible for people who had been living in isolation for years. Fortunately, that era is now behind us. This project is a beautiful example of our corporate social responsibility to the community. Where possible, we want to improve the living conditions of people. In this specific case we are dealing with the safety of school children on the water”, remarks Philip van Dalsen, CEO of Digicel Suriname.
In the past year, Digicel put up new masts in Antino on the Lawa. Before long, telecommunication will also be brought to among others Langatabiki and surroundings.
